For Earth Day, we thought it would be a good time to consider our efforts to make Minimum Mouse a more sustainable and environmentally friendly business. We aren't perfect by any means, but at Minimum Mouse we are mindful of the importance of making the right choices in our business to consider sustainability and the future of our planet. We have already made improvements and there are many more we’re working towards.
Here are some of the changes we’ve already implemented.
The first change we made was seeking a new, green supplier of electricity. We have decided to go with kinex, which is backed by 100% renewable energy and comes from wind farms. Discover more about kinex here.
As you already know, we stock and sell vintage items which are a fantastic way to keep the planet going. Reusing and rewearing pre-loved clothes means less manufacturing, less energy used and getting more out of the fab clothes we already have. We want as little as possible to go to waste. Sadly, some of our vintage stock is not fit for being re-worn again so our fabulous in team seamstress, Ellie, has been using the fabric fo whip up amazing scrunchies!
If you’ve ordered from us recently you will have seen that we mostly use recyclable packaging, from paper envelopes to recyclable posting bags. However we would like to do more and are currently researching recyclable packaging which is also made of recycled material. We’re also researching posting bags that can be composted. As we are a small business it can take us a little longer to make these kinds of changes as we need to use up our existing supplies before moving on to new ones, plus the options can be quite confusing and costly, but we will get there!
We’ve changed our jewellery packaging! Our jewellery is now backed on cards made from recycled material and are backed in eco cellophane bio bags, which are both biodegradable and compostable. The change is unnoticeable and provides the same sturdiness and protection as non recyclable packaging. We’re very happy with this change!
To further support our sustainability goals we will be partnering with Ecologi to plant a tree for every order made on our website from today to the 22nd May. Ecologi work with their tree planting partner, Eden Reforestation, who work with all levels of government to secure written agreements designating the restoration sites as protected in perpetuity. They hire local villagers to plant the trees and do all possible to supply them with alternative fuel sources.
